The Duchess of Sussex may follow in the footsteps ofKate MiddletonandPrincess Diana, introducing her child to the world outside the hospital shortly after the birth. Of course, it’sunlikely that she’ll pose on the famous steps of the Lindo Wingat St. Mary’s Hospital in London like her sister-in-law and mother-in-law – Meghan and Harry will probably chose a different hospital closer to their new home at Frogmore Cottage to welcome their child.

Princess Anne was the first royal to give birth in the Lindo Wing when she welcomed her son, Peter Phillips, in 1977 – and opted to go to the same hospital to give birth to her daughter, Zara Phillips, in 1981.

Princess Diana continued the trend the following year, welcomingPrince Williamand introducing him to the world on the steps outside. She also gave birth to Prince Harry there.

All three ofPrince Williamand Princess Kate’s children were born in the same place as their dad – and Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, who turns 1 this month, gave their first royal waves on the steps.

The release of the photos came as a surprise, as Kate and William usually shared their children’s first portraits about a month after their births.

After the first glimpse and official photos, it may be a few months until we see Meghan and Harry’s child again – likely at his or her christening.

Prince George’s christeningoccurred in late October(more than three months after he was born), at the Chapel Royal in London’s St. James’s Palace. Charlotte’s was held two months after her birth at the St. Mary Magdalene Church in Norfolk,on the grounds of the Queen’s Sandringham estate— and very close to William and Kate’s country home, Anmer Hall.

Louis was christenedat the same place as his older brother in July, about three months after his world debut. The event was also special because it marked the first time the world saw Kate and William as a family of five!
