We like to think we ’ve already let on everything there is to get a line on Earth , but have we really ? Throughout the track of account , anumber of islandshave been fleck and document by early Explorer , only to never be seen again . These territory are known as “ phantom island , ” but as creative person Andrew Pekler note , their existence has never been verified .

In search the caption surrounding these elusive — and perhaps fanciful — islands , Pekler created an online “ sonic atlas ” of what these places may very well sound like . His employment was commissioned by French museum Jeu de Paume for the exposition “ Fourth Worlds : Imaginary Ethnography in Music and Sound . ”

Viewers can use their computer ’s black eye to voyage the map and soar in on any island that seem peculiarly challenging . you could also enter “ cruise mode ” to be taken on an audio hitch of all the phantom islands documented by Pekler . A brief story is given for each island , and some of them are fairly spooky .

One phantom island in the Gulf of Mexico , Bermeja , first appear on maps in the 1530s but was n’t see again after the 16th century , according to research by Pekler and his team . The Mexican government send a resume vessel to seek to ascertain it in 1997 , but when nothing was expose , a few Mexican senators claimed America ’s CIA may have destroyed it in a bidding to lie claim to the dominion and untroubled control over offshore fossil oil and gas battleground . Not long after , one of the senators who demanded further investigation was driving in his car when he was run off the road and vote out by an unknown assailant , which spawn a number of conspiracy hypothesis .
