On Saturday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced onFacebookthat Shakeira Rucker, 37, was discovered dead inside a storage unit in Apopka, Fla.
“This is now an Orange County homicide case,” the office wrote. “Shakeira’s family was notified this evening. We grieve with them & our detectives are committed to bringing them justice in this case.”
Since then, Sheriff John Mina shared in anews conferencethat the storage unit was registered to Rucker’s estranged husband, Cory Hill.
Hill, 51, who is currently in Orange County Jail, had previously been charged with four counts of attempted homicide for “shooting at his girlfriend and family” on Nov. 12, Mina added.

According to local NBC affiliateWESH, Rucker was a mother of four. A Nov. 13Facebookpost from the Winter Springs Police Department first noted that Rucker was reported missing and last seen leaving her home on Nov. 11, and that her family believed she left with Hill to “an unknown destination.”
Chief Matthew Tracht told reporters at the press conference this weekend that the investigation expanded into four counties — Seminole, Polk, Orange and Lake. Police also got assistance from the Mount Dora Police Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the FBI.
“It’s not the outcome we expected,” he said. “But there’s a little bit of closure for Shakeira’s family.”
Tracht added that law enforcement worked 16 and 18 hour days to find Rucker. She was found dead in the unit with apparent gunshot wounds. The autopsy is still in progress, per Mina.
