Kristen Bellsays finding “common goals” with her husbandDax Shepardis key to why their marriage continues to thrive.
The Good Placeactress, who celebrates her 10th wedding anniversary with Shepard, 48, next month, just opened up about how they continue to work together to make each other happy.
“Common goals, seek them out. Our kids are a common goal, right?” said Bell, 43, in an interview withEntertainment Tonight, referencing their daughters,Delta, 8, andLincoln, 10.
“People are like, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t be able to work with my husband or wife or partner.’ For me, I want another common goal with him,” she continued. “I respect him so much creatively. I have so much trust in him. Of course I want him to be my director or my scene partner.”

There’s “a deep sense of respect,” as well, Bell said. She explained toETthat both that respect and “understanding” is what has helped her and Shepard weather conflicts.
“Understanding that your partner used to be a little person is the best thing you can do,” she toldET.
The actress added, “Sometimes if we’re ever on the verge of a fight, one of us will say — it’s usually Dax — ‘I feel like 8-year-old Dax right now.’ And I’m able to see him like I see my kids, which is in a very different way and go, ‘Oh yeah, you’re a little person that had trauma and triggers and it’s not about me.’”

Bell also told the outlet that if she could “change” her behavior in a way that “benefits” the relationship, she would do it, because “why wouldn’t I do that?”
When asked how they’ll mark their major anniversary on Oct. 17, theFrozen 2actress revealed that they aren’t stressed about celebrating the milestone achievement, as their current focus is on Halloween plans with their daughters.
“It’s 10 years? I can’t be bothered with the anniversary,” Bell said. “Halloween is coming up. And I don’t need any aluminum, and he doesn’t need any diamonds.”

Bell and Shepard, who married in 2013, credit their daughters for giving life more meaning and bringing them new joys.
“Nothing compares to being a dad,” Shepard said during aSXSW panel in Austin, Texasin March. “It is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.”
“When I have failures in life, I get to come home and still be dad,” Shepard added. “It is the most transformative experience. You can feel it’s why you are here.”
In general, Bell has said that the couple uses their “support system” when it comes to raising their kids. Shetold PEOPLEin July 2022, “It’s one thing to know you have friends and family, a neighbor, a cousin, whatever, but it’s quite another to pick up the phone when you need something.”
