One couple became the true winners of Thursday’s New York City Knicks game — even as a heated exchange between a Knicks player and a referee played out just a few feet away.

It all happened during a timeout in the game when a man got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend. As he kneeled on the sidelines of the court, the wedding processional song played in the arena. Behind him, employees of the Knicks also held game tickets and a “congratulations” sign.

When the woman realized what was happening, she leaned over and kissed her future husband before he put the ring on her finger.

But as the couple celebrated this once-in-a-lifetime moment, Knicks power forwardJulius Randle, 29, stood in the background having a heated conversation with the referee about an incident during the game against the Detroit Pistons.

“Julius Randle was having words with the ref during a marriage proposal,” ESPN captioned aTikTokvideo of the couple’s special moment.

In October, a San Francisco 49ers fan’s proposal to his girlfriend, a Dallas Cowboys fan, was also caught oncamera, and NBC’s broadcasters Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico had fun with the romantic moment.

The man got down on one knee wearing hisChristian McCaffreyjersey as the 49ers squashed the Cowboys 42-10 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

The bride-to-be was wearing herDak Prescottjersey when she accepted the proposal as fans sitting around the couple cheered,

“Not every Cowboy fan is leaving unhappy tonight,” Tirico joked as NBC cameras showed the proposal on television during Sunday Night Football’s broadcast.

Tirico and Collinsworth pondered whether the man would still have proposed to his now-fiancée if the score had been in Dallas' favor during the rivalry matchup between the NFL teams.

Collinsworth said, “Would he have done it if the Cowboys had won? I don’t think so. I think he’s holding the ring.”

The Sunday Night Football host added, “You can’t start a marriage like that, with her having the upper hand. But the 49ers win, ‘Here you go, let’s get married.’ "
