Jon Batisteand his wifeSuleika Jaouadwalked the red carpet at the 66th annual Grammy Awards aftershe missed the 2022 showdue to a recent cancer diagnosis.
Two years prior, Jaouad and Batiste were newlyweds (they tied the knot in Feb. 2022) when Batiste was nominated for nearly a dozen Grammy Awards. However,Jaouad was not able to attend that night; she was home recovering from a bone marrow transplant after a relapse of the leukemia she first was diagnosed with at age 22.

In November, Batistetold PEOPLEhe was looking forward to having his award show date back.
The couple documented the journey, including that night of the 2022 Grammys, in their Netflix documentaryAmerican Symphony. Batiste’s challenges with work-life balance were highlighted, showing his battle to be present when his wife was sick at home.
“It’s hard to be present when you’re in moments like the Grammys and everything is pulling your attention, and you have to be supremely focused, and you’ve worked all this time for a certain goal in your mind, and your partner is at home and going through this,” he said. “It was a lot of anxiety mixed with a lot of raw emotion and celebration. I think this year is going to be great.”
