Dan Dos Santos just advance a silver decoration from this year ’s Spectrum medals for his covering art for Diana Rowland ’s My Life as a White Trash Zombie . Over at Muddy Colors , he discuss the evolution of this dramatic cover .

According to Dos Santos , the all-important affair was that for the cover of this “ automaton romance , ” the cover manikin had to be aphrodisiacal . seemingly , another “ sexy automaton ” cover had locomote down in flames of late :

The AD was very fussy that I make the heroine an obvious zombie , but still attractive . Apparently , someone had tried something like not to long prior , and sales were disastrous . make the masking more sexy than scary was essential . I sat down , and speedily drew my mode through every trailer park and pinkish flamingo cliche I could believe of . Nothing process . But something about the pink stuck with me . I sometimes outline in color ( one of the bully benefits of sketching digitally ) , and the moment I saw the style the all in grey tegument would play off the burnished feminine pink , I know I had my cover .
