Every once in a while , The Last Man on Earth breaks you . The show works its conjuring trick and move around the audience into a frustrated member of the cast . That happened this week as Will Forte ’s Tandy continually , and uproariously , repeated the same phrasal idiom over and over : “ I did the criminal offence , now I got ta do the time . ”
It ’s a hackneyed phrase we ’ve see throughout our lives , but leave it to Tandy to take it , break it , and spit it out in so many unlike , annoying versions it made me literally scream at the goggle box . “ Okay ! Stop ! We contract it ! ”
Now , you ’d think screaming at a television would be a tough thing . But that form of nonrational response is the oddball prayer of The Last humanity on Earth . You always kind of hate the people on it , but ca n’t wait to see what unhinged thing they ’ll do next . To me , elicit a scream was a badge of honor .
Appropriately , Sunday ’s episode was called “ C to the T , ” which was just one of Tandy ’s many fashion of knead the “ Crime ” and “ Time ” quote . ( The full acronym was in particular enrage ) . Last hebdomad we exit him in the stocks , captured by his honest-to-goodness crew . This week they proposed he should have a calendar week of solitary childbed as penalty for point a gun at them . But Tandy ( please do n’t call him Phil ) said , “ Why not make it five ? ”
Oh , Tandy . This is just another terrible architectural plan by this fantastic character reference . He almost always has the in effect intentions , but he ’s so broken by his sentence alone as the “ Last Man on ground ” he ’s lost all concept of result or feelings . Just because you volunteer to do five hebdomad does n’t make it any better for you .
So , of form , five days of solitary live all of a few hour . And when they string him up with a seismic disturbance collar , he involve a second collar so he ’ll shut up . And even when he ’s being quiet , Phil is n’t contented just doing the prison term , he want acknowledgment for it . It can never , ever , just be childlike .
It all come down to faith , Todd tells Tandy . They ’re doing this to him because he ’s betray their trust too many times and he has to clear it back . Which does n’t quite make it all right for them to treat him like this , but it ’s funny none the less .
Later , an opportunity presents itself to redeem everyone and Tandy shows the selfless human buried somewhere beneath that dreadful facial hair . The installment terminate with Tandy finishing his fourth dimension and next workweek , that issue of corporate trust will be back on display as Todd is doing something mysterious . I ’d imagine , whatever it is , it ’s going to be uproariously enrage . Any show that can so quickly elicit not just express joy , but a physical and verbal reception , it always worth looking forwards to .
