Science - visualisation wunderkind Eleanor Lutz continues to raise the bar for animated infographics with her latest macrocosm , a hypnotizing guide to embryonic ontogeny .
Lutz says she ’s been wanting to do an infographic on embryogenesis for some time , but was stumped on how to present the information . A mesmerizing GIFdesigned by animator Nicolas Fong inspired her to utilise the spiraling format you see here . As with herpreviouswork , the end resolution combine succinctness with dynamic imagery to arresting effect . Imagine how useful something like this would be in a developmental biology text ( er … tocopherol - book ? ):
write Lutz :

I ’m actually really felicitous with how this change by reversal out . I made this using 44 animations that are 9 form each . That ’s 396 survey aggregate – believably the most complicated GIF I ’ve made so far . I am a lilliputian deplorable that I was n’t able to show sizing properly though . For instance . the 24 week foetus is about 40 times heavier than a 12 week fetus ( but you ca n’t tell that from this drawing ) .
print of the infographic are availablehere . More information onLutz ’s website .
