Blythe Danner knows that being a fun grandma is all about breaking the rules.
On Monday night, the actress, 76, who’s mom toGwyneth Paltrowand her younger brother Jake, revealed during AARP’s 18th Annual Movie Awards for Grownups that she loves to indulge her grandkids — including Paltrow’s daughter, Apple, 14, and son, Moses, 12, with her ex-husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. Jake also has two kids of his own.
When asked if she’s a “doting grandmother,” theMeet The Parentsstar answered, “They have enough rules at home. So I try to be the Auntie Mame, although I’m not quite that fun.”

Danner added that she’s “happiest when I’m with the kids,” before discussing her own marriage to Bruce Paltrow from 1969 until he died in 2002.
“As an older person, I never remarried, because I had such an incredible husband,” she mused. “I just find a real contentment being with [my grandkids].”

As for the future of her career, Danner joked that she hopes to end things with a bang.
“Maybe I’ll just dive into the ocean,” she said in response to a question about what her “third act” of life will entail. “Nobody will know what I’ve done. I’ve said this before, too. I would love to drop dead on stage taking a bow. That’s what I really would like to do,” she quipped.

In September,Paltrow and Falchuk tied the knotin the backyard of the actress’s East Hampton, New York, home with 70 of their closest friends and family members in attendance. They met during Paltrow’s guest appearance onGleein 2010, but they didn’t officially start dating until 2014.

In January, Paltrow opened up to PEOPLE aboutplanning her wedding, admitting that she was giddy thinking about what her nuptials would look like.
“I’m excited about everything! I’ve never had a wedding before. So even though I’m 45, I sort of feel like a 21-year-old,” she said.
Paltrow previously eloped with ex-husbandChris Martinin 2003. They “consciously uncoupled” in 2014 and have remained amicable ever since.
