What at first appeared to be a normal , discarded beer bottle caught in a fisher ’s net has turn out to be a record - breaking discovery — a proverbial subject matter in a bottle dating back to May 17th , 1913 .
The bottle contained a Danish mailing-card with two German stamp on it . The card had a polite substance written by one Richard Platz asking the finder to institutionalise it on to his address in Berlin . It even carry two five - Pfenning stamps to ante up for postage stamp . But it never go far , landing instead in the hands of Konrad Fischer , a captain from Heikendorf in Schleswig Holstein .

He was hiking on the Baltic coast with a nature appreciation group when he threw the bottle in the ocean . Platz was just 54 when he break down in 1946 .
