The student leave a substance , along with a few questions that go forth her scratching her head , including “ ( 8 + 29 ) x 15 . ”
The police messaged Draper back , and briefly explained the mathematical order of operations to her ( refresher course : PEMDAS , which stands for " divagation , index , propagation , part , addition and minus " ) . “ Do the number in the parenthesis first so in gist it would be 37 x 15 , ” they instructed . Draper survey up with a more unmanageable question—"(90 + 27 ) + ( 29 + 15 ) x 2"—and the officers give her additional help .

While their hearts were in the right-hand seat , their numbers were n’t : Draper end up getting the second problem wrong , her female parent later noted , as her math mentors mistakenly instructed her to reset the accession problem in both parentheses , and to multiply that resolution by two .
