set up in 2009,GOES-14is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ’s ( NOAA ) Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite program . What does that mean ? It orbits the Earth making scans of weather patterns . Most notably , it was used to track Hurricane Sandy last fall , and before that , Tropical Storm Isaac .
