In a conversation withPolygon , Doctor WhoshowrunnerRussell T Daviesdiscussed opting away from giving theFifteenth Doctoraconsistent outfit — or accessory , like , say , a bowtie or a distinctively striped scarf — like premature Doctors have wear .
With the fashionable Ncuti Gatwa now starring as the Doctor , Davies wanted to allow more elbow room for different looks . “ I do make love open up the room access for cosplayers , ” Davies shared with Polygon . “ In one instalment in the first time of year [ the Fifteenth Doctor ] set out of the TARDIS in a couple of jean and a duffel coat . But given the Time Lord ’s travels , not every week involves an outfit built around jeans . All the mixture has undoubtedly inspired cosplayers to run barbaric , which excites Davies . “ If it ’s your hobby , then that ’s money well spend . [ … ] But there ’s also going to be that casual cosplayer , that Thomas Kyd who fancies being Doctor Who today . And that means now they can put on a pair of jeans and a duffle coat , run out the door or in the middle of the rain , and say , ‘ I ’m the Dr. . ’ And I care that . ”
Davies keep . “ It democratise it , it entail no one has ownership . It signify you could put on any costume and say , ‘ I ’m the Doctor today , ’ because that ’s what he ’d do . ”
