On Sunday, the member of the K-pop group, 31, shared a pre-recordedvideoon BTS’ official YouTube channel to wish their fans a happynew yearand request their patience as he finishes his mandatory service in the South Korean military, now that he only has a few months left.

The performer (whose real name is Kim Seok-jin) then offered warm wishes for the winter ahead. “Did you all make a snowman? I’m still in the past so I don’t know if it’s snowing or not, but if it snowed, you have to make a snowman … and go back to being kids and do snowball fights,” he joked while holding a snowman plush toy.

“What else can you make with snow? You could also go skiing,” continued “The Astronaut” singer. “I’m good at snowboarding, remember? Everytime you go skiing, please think about me. Don’t catch [a] cold. It’d be really cold in January.”

After clarifying again that he filmed the video in advance, the K-pop idol explained that he wanted to make sure he could share an update with fans while they wait for him to complete his service, which he had originally legally deferred for years.

“I’m leaving this video so you can watch my pretty, handsome face and spend January and February warmly,” he said. “I miss you all. I miss you a lot.”

He continued, “Guys, please wait a few more months. Now that it’s the new year, we have a few months left. Make a lot of snowmen and think of me as you make them.”

Jin wasn’t the only member of the Grammy-nominated group to share a “happy new year” message. On New Year’s Eve,J-Hope— whobegan his enlistment in April 2023— took to the social media platformWeVerseto reflect on what a “special and thankful year” he had.

“This year, I think I worked and moved in a variety of ways, focusing clearly on the military,” the “On the Street” artist, 29, wrote in a post translated from Korean to English.

“After living in such a busy and fierce life, I joined the military. 😂😂,” he wrote after noting the various accomplishments he made as a solo artist in 2023.

The singer-songwriter explained that fans can expect at least one new song from him while his music career is on pause, as he “prepared contents” to drop while he carries out his civic duties.

All members of the seven-piece group — which also includesJimin,Jungkook,RM,SugaandV— are currently fulfilling their mandatory service. Because Jin was the first to enroll in late 2022, he’ll be the first to complete the 18-month-long requirement in early 2024.
