Ever since Laurel Lance die , Arrow has been tiptoeing around the question of who could carry on the Black Canary drapery . In last night ’s episode , we got the answer — and this time , unlike the Lance sisters , she ’s as close to the bona fide comic Quran reading of Black Canary as you could want .
Last hebdomad ’s episode introduced us to Tina Boland , a tough hugger-mugger cop who got just enough screentime before Oliver was all “ I ’m give way to recruit her as the new Black Canary ” to make it almost sure that she was , indeed , the new Black Canary . In last night ’s “ Second Chances , ” we larn about Tina and delved into her backstory , which matches the DC Comics ’ version of the superhero much more closely than the show ’s first two Canaries .

Because , you see , unlike Sara and Laurel Lance , Tina is actually superpowered : While Sara had her sonic grenade and Laurel finally got a twist from Cisco that grant her to scream really , really loud , neither had the Canary Cry as a superpower . Tina does . We learned last night that she ’s actually a metahuman , who pull in her sonic screaming ability the dark STAR Labs ’ particle atom smasher exploded while witnessing her clandestine partner conk out at the hands of the drug dealer they were investigate . Naturally , as it does in the Arrowverse , this lead to Tina depone vengeance on criminals and partaking in some occasional vigilantism .
If that was n’t commodious enough for Ollie ’s pursuance for a raw Canary , the Apocalypse in the closing chronological succession of the sequence was : Tina ’s name is n’t really Tina . That was the name she used for undercover operations . Her material name is Dinah Drake .
As comic rooter know , Dinah Drake is the original , genuine clause Black Canary , who first appear in the pages of Flash Comics back in 1947 . Dinah would go on to meet her hubby , Larry Lance , get wed , and have a girl , Dinah Laurel Lance , who would take on her female parent ’s mantelpiece in the Golden Age of funnies and become a major DC hero , and even be a founding member of the Justice League .
However , Dinah Drake is dead not the first Dinah to appear on Arrow . In fact , she ’s not even the first Dinah Drake , which confuses everything greatly . Here ’s the list :
