The social system , now part of Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park , were just that — kiln built to laconic Natalie Wood into charcoal grey , part of a much larger town that existed in the late nineteenth century . Ironically ( or perhaps not surprisingly at all ) , the townsfolk burned down , preserve the kilns and little else . And now they just sit there , with the stars as their backdrop . [ viaNASA ]
