This amazing prototype shows 90 percentage of Mars ’s surface , imaged in ultra - mellow detailby the stereophonic camera aboard the European Space Agency ’s Mars Express .
The prototype is stitch together from 2,702 single figure of speech of the Martian surface . The white sections are a event of the ESA being manned by perfectionist : those images were affected by dust or atmospherical effects and hold too low in term of quality to make the final swing . The ESA explain :
In total , 87.8 % of the surface has been map out at any resolution , with 61.5 % mapped at a resolution of 20 m per pixel or better . The function is equatorially aligned , meaning that regions at the poles seem distorted …

The insidious variation in color tones are due part to modification in dust message in the atmosphere , but mostly due to the modification in solar elevation as the ballistic capsule prompt around the planet , experience different clarification conditions .
Look cautiously and you’re able to make out some of Mars ’s main geologic feature article . At the top left is Olympus Mons , the planet ’s marvelous volcano , and just below and to the right are the mountains that make up Tharsis Montes . Even further right is Valles Marineris , the solar organization ’s largest canon . Check out the full image below . [ ESA ]
