Over the retiring 100 years , it was suppose that Ethiopia ’s lions were long break down . However , wildlife conservationist have now   announced the " earth - breaking breakthrough "   of over 100 Leo the Lion living in the state .

TheBorn Free Foundationhas say   that a squad of researchers   from Oxford University ’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit ,   led by Dr. Hans Bauer ,   found the helpless tribe of lion deep within the dry savanna of Alatash National Park ,   compass north - Benjamin West   Ethiopia .

The squad believes that their findings strongly suggest   there will be more lions   over the delimitation in Dinder National Park , Sudan .

While they had get laid that this arena was a “ possible   ambit ” for the species based on historical records , only locals knew of their current front . To verify the rumors , the conservationists went there to amass original and undisputable grounds of the lions ' macrocosm .

According tothe   paper ,   the researchers placed photographic camera trap near a dry river bottom where they had spotted lion   footprint . By the 2d night ,   their suspicion were proved to be correct after capturing legion   trope of   the predators .

The accurate numbers of this Ethiopian clan are unknown . However , the team has speculated on the size of the population . In astatement , Dr. Bauer say , “ Considering the relative relief with which lion signs were observed , it is probable that they are resident throughout Alatash and Dinder .   Due to modified control surface water , prey densities are scurvy , and lion densities are likely to be humbled , we may conservatively feign a density in the range of a function of one to two lions per 100 kilometers squared ( 38.6 miles squared ) . On a total aerofoil area of about 10,000 kilometers square ( 3,861 miles square ) , this would mean a universe of 100 - 200 king of beasts for the intact ecosystem , of which 27 - 54 would be in Alatash . ”

The natural range of lions has been reject for hundred and hundreds of years . Through release of habitat and poaching , it ’s thought as small as 8   percent of their historic range remain .

The African Panthera leo ( Panthera leo)islisted as " Vulnerable"on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species . While their populations are forecasted for more doom and sombreness in the coming year , the subject field has offer a much - needed boost of hope for their preservation .

Born Free ’s chief executive , Adam M. Roberts , also added : “ The confirmation that lions hold on in this orbit is exciting news . With Leo numbers in steep decline across most of the African continent , the discovery of previously unconfirmed populations is staggeringly important – particularly in Ethiopia , whose government is a important conservation ally .   We need to do all we can to protect these brute and the ecosystem on which they reckon , along with all the other remaining lions across Africa , so we can revoke the declines and secure their time to come . ”
