As this time of year ofHouse of the Dragonsets up the wars to fare , a feeling of serenity is briefly granted to the ailing King Viserys ( Paddy Considine ) in “ The Lord of the Tides . ” For the first time in year , his entire kinsfolk fall on King ’s Landing to grapple over command of Driftmark — lead in some , uh , gamey moment mix with something almost as surprising : earnest free grace .
Those moments play out spontaneously , grant to episode theatre director Geeta Patel , who spoke about the chronological sequence toEntertainment Weekly .
In the vista , we see Daemon ( Matt Smith ) aid his brother Viserys up the stairs to his commode , which the Rex allows even though he wanted to crusade through the painful sensation of his condition to make his way on his own . “ Daemon helps Viserys up the stair to the potty ‘ cause Viserys is so weak , he ca n’t make it himself , ” Patel explained . “ First , a soldier comes up to Viserys , and Viserys sway him aside and state , ‘ No , no , no . I can do this myself . ’ He has the pride . And then another someone comes to him and he thinks it ’s a soldier and it ’s actually his brother . When we were shooting that , the crown fell off of Paddy ’s mind and Matt picked it up and we just keep go . We did n’t hold on [ filming ] . There was a discovery there of this here and now , ” in what became the most moving aspect in last night ’s episode .

Patel continued that after that spontaneous take , she talked to Considine and Smith about save it , “ They were like , ‘ We felt this . This felt like the turn full stop in our human relationship . ’ It ’s just a silent here and now . And then we suppose to ourselves , ‘ We have the dinner party coming up where Daemon ’s gon na then give a lecture . Are we gon na undercut that instant ? ’ We settle to shoot it both ways with the crown falling off and with the crown not fall off . ” Ultimately , the unsounded moment proved more impactful . “ Every meter the crown fell off , all of us just caught our breathing place and at the same time we believe , ‘ Will we have anywhere to go by the clock time we get to the dinner ? ’ And funny enough , in the edit we attain that the moment was actually the crown falling off , in my mind at least . ”
Smith ’s dinner party address as Daemon terminate up being cut for time but Patel clarified , “ It was more of an aftermath moment . It was more about the dinner when Daemon gives that speech , there ’s too many people in the way almost for that to be the emotional here and now . I was so thankful that stroke happened , that the crownwork fell off because it proved to be , at least for me , quite a heavy present moment and quite a turn point for a storyline that had started in the pilot : Hey , I want your tip and by the ending here I ’m gon na put the crown back on your question and I ’m gon na facilitate you to your throne . ”
